Connecting SONET/SDH Systems to WaveStar OLS 
40G

Connect Optical Line System to 
SONET/SDH/1-Gb Ethernet

Description

This procedure is broken into two parts:

■

Connect Optical Line System to compatible SONET/SDH/1-Gb Ethernet 
receivers. OLS-compatible SONET/SDH/1-Gb Ethernet receivers include:

— OC-48/STM-16 Optical Translator Units — 41B or 41BB 

— STM-16 Optical Translator Units — 41E

— OC-3/STM-1 Optical Translator Port Module — 43B

— OC-12/STM-4 Optical Translator Port Module — 42B

— Low-speed Broadband Optical Translator Port Module — 44B

— OC-48 FT-2000 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal with Release 7.2 or later 

— 839E5

— OC-48 FT-2000 Large Capacity Terminal with Release 1.0 or later — 

839B4 or 839B4B

— 1-Gb Ethernet Optical Translator Unit — 41G

■

Connect OTU/OTPM output to generic SONET/SDH/1-Gb Ethernet 
receiver input.

Connect WaveStar 
OLS 40G to 
Compatible 
SONET/SDH/1-Gb 
Ethernet Receivers

Step

Action

1 

At the WaveStar OLS 40G, clean and connect the assigned jumper to the 
proper ODU output Port, i.e,. ODU OCHAN1 OUT jack goes to channel 1 
receiver or OTU/OTPM, ODU OCHAN2 OUT jack goes to channel 2 
receiver or OTU/OTPM, etc.

2 

At receiver or OTU/OTPM, clean then connect fiber jumper from the ODU 
to an optical power meter.

3 

Momentarily remove then reconnect the fiber on the ODU OUT jack. 

Requirement

: The optical power meter shows a momentary loss of optical 

power. (Power drops at least 25 dB on the meter.)
