Near End Loopback Causes a loopback to operate on a specific TTP (trail
termination point). Near-end loopbacks are in the
direction of PDH traffic.

Far End Loopback Causes a loopback to operate on a specific TTP (trail
termination point). Far-end loopbacks are in the direction
of SDH traffic. 2M, MS, VC4
Force AIS Forces an AIS in the downstream direction. 2M, VC12, TU12,
MS, AU4
Force FERF Forces a FERF in the upstream direction. VC12, MS, VC4
Send Upstream AIS Forces an AIS in the upstream direction. VC12, MS, VC4
Restart Processor Resets the NE CPU. CPU
6.3 Alarms Management
Lightscape Networks product line supports sophisticated mechanisms for detecting
malfunctions and generating alarms accordingly. The eEM provides the following
alarm categories:
Communications
Alarms Alarms associated with the communications between the
eEM and an NE (i.e., Loss of Signal).
Equipment Alarms
Alarms associated with

SDM-1 equipment card problems.
Transmission
Alarms Alarms associated with transmission path problems.
Timing Alarms Alarms associated with timing source problems.
In addition, the system supports Quality of Service ( QoS ) alarms which report the
crossing of performance thresholds. The system also logs the following events:

Object state change

Internal Alarm - connect/disconnect

Internal Alarm - loss of events
The eEM's alarm management functions are accessed from the Alarms menu and
from the Faults tab in the Options dialog box.
The eEM uses the following visual and audible indicators in situations requiring user
intervention:

In the Topology View, alarm bells that indicate that the NE is in an alarm
condition.
