Inlet
The inlet regulates the flow on ink fluid going to the printhead.
•
Printhead
The printhead is responsible for spitting ink out into the paper. It uses thermal heat to create bubbles
inside that effectively pushes the ink towards the paper.
Operation
The fluid system operates by undergoing a process called priming. During this process, ink is transferred from
the ink tanks to the printhead via the ink tubes. The system uses a peristaltic pump to create a vacuum pressure
to move the ink from point A to point B. This vacuum pressure is used to remove the air out from the ink tube,
allowing the liquid to flow.
The goal of priming is to achieve a continuous ink flow on the ink tubes from the ink tanks to the printhead
nozzles. If the fluid connection is cut off, it is either due to a problem in the system or ink from the tanks has run
out.
Scanner
Function
The scanner collects information from the document and converts it to a digital image using the following
elements:
•
LED (Red, Green, and Blue)
•
Light pipe with lens
•
Contact image sensor (CIS) scan bar
The data from the scanning process is sent to the system card, which processes it to become a digital image.
The digital image can be displayed on the PC as a scan output, printed for a copy job, or sent electronically for a
fax job.
Operation
The document scanning section consists of a scanner that reads a single-sheet document placed on the glass
plate and a document feeder that can transport a multiple-sheet document for one or two-sided scanning
depending on the machine model.
Note:
Only Pro5500 supports two-sided scanning.
At power on, the flatbed scanner will move to the left to find the home sensor. The flatbed scanner will stop once
the sensor is tripped. The scan bar will initialize, and start to move to the right with LEDs lit up to find its base
position that is a white strip under the glass plate.
If the scanner detects a document on the ADF, the CIS scan bar moves to the left past its base position and
stays on the scan area for scanning from the ADF. If no document is detected on that area, the printer would
scan from the flatbed.
