ADF paper jam service check
10 Replace the ADF assembly. See “ADF assembly
removal” on page 4-47 .
Does the problem remain?
Go to step 11. Problem resolved
11 Replace the midframe cover assembly. See
“Midframe cover removal” on page 4-50 .
Does the problem remain?
Go to step 12. Problem resolved
12 Replace the system board. See “System board
removal” on page 4-32 .
Does the problem remain?
Replace the
printer. Problem resolved

1 Turn off the printer by unplugging the power cord. Wait for
10 seconds, and turn on the printer.
Does the problem remain?
Go to step 2. Problem
resolved
2 Check if the media is supported by the scanner assembly.
Check it for any damage.
Is the media supported by the scanner assembly and
free from any damage?
Go to step 3. Replace the
media. See
“Media input
type
specifications”
on page 1-20
and “Media
input sizes
specifications”
on page 1-20
.
3 Check the following:
• If the media does not exceed the ADF paper input
capacity.
• If the media is inserted properly on the ADF input tray.
• If the ADF exit tray is not full. Clear the ADF exit tray.
Does the media exceed the stack limit?
Lessen the
paper in the
tray. Go to step 4.
4 Check if the ADF paper present and the ADF paper path
sensor flags are free from damage, and will actuate every
time they are hit.
Are the sensors free from any damage?
Go to step 5. Go to step 13.
5 Check if the ADF pick motor initializes every time the ADF
paper present sensor is triggered.
Does the ADF motor initialize when the sensor is
triggered?
Go to step 6. Go to step 9.
6 Check the ADF pick assembly and separation pad for
wear and contamination.
Are the ADF pick assembly and friction pad dirty or
contaminated?
Go to step 11. Go to step 7.
7 Check if the ADF pick assembly moves down during
paper pick.
Does the ADF pick assembly move down during
paper pick?
Go to step 8. Go to step 13.
