Note:

Align the new rubber mounts of the new front fan with the corresponding holes in the chassis. Push

the rubber mounts through the holes. Pull the tips of the rubber mounts until the front fan is secured in place.

Prerequisite

Before you start, read

Generic Safety and Compliance Notices

The heat sink might be very hot. Before you open the computer cover, turn off the computer and wait several
minutes until the computer is cool.

For access, do the following:

1. Remove these parts in order, if any:

• “Computer cover” on page 53

• “Optical drive” on page 54

• “Front bezel” on page 55

• “Optical drive cage” on page 74

2. Disconnect the heat-sink-and-fan assembly cable from the microprocessor fan connector on the system

board.

Replacement procedure of the 65-watt heat-sink-and-fan assembly

1. Follow the following sequence to loosen the four screws that secure the heat-sink-and-fan assembly to

the system board. Then, lift the heat-sink-and-fan assembly off the system board.

• Partially loosen screw

, fully loosen screw

, and then fully loosen screw

• Partially loosen screw
