Procedure

Step 1. Remove the security bezel (see “Remove the security bezel” on page 198).
Step 2. Gently rotate the release latch away to unlock the drive handle.

Step 3. Grasp and pull the handle to remove the drive from the drive bay.

After this task is completed

1. Install a replacement unit or filler (see “Install a 2.5-inch hot-swap drive” on page 113).
2. If you are instructed to return the component or optional device, follow all packaging instructions, and

use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.

Remove a drive backplane

Follow instructions in this section to remove a drive backplane.

About this task

Attention:

• Go over “Installation Guidelines” on page 107 to ensure that you work safely.
• Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables (see

“Power off the server” on page 12).

• If the server is installed in a rack, slide the server out on its rack slide rails to gain access to the top cover,

or remove the server from the rack.
