Checking the bottom tray

Caution 

Some of the reagents used in the HistoCore PEARL are hazardous to health. Therefore always wear 

chemical protective clothing, protective goggles, respirator, rubber gloves and all other necessary 

personal protective equipment, when handling them. 

The bottom tray must be inspected regularly for signs of leaking reagents. It is recommended to do this 
after the processing program and cleaning program has been completed, before any leaking reagent 
has a chance to evaporate. 
To check the bottom tray, use one hand to pull the bottom tray out by the handle until you see the 
etched number, 20 cm; use the other hand to support  the tray from the bottom. Then pull out the whole 
bottom tray.

Cleaning the paraffin drip tray

Caution 

Use care with paraffin - risk of burning when removing the paraffin drip tray due to liquid paraffin.

• 

Pull out the paraffin drip tray. Empty the paraffin drip tray with the supplied scraper.

• 

If necessary place it in the laboratory oven (on cellulose) and clean with xylene substitute.

6.2.2  Weekly cleaning and maintenance

Cleaning the paraffin baths

Caution 

Work carefully and wear gloves!
Be careful as the walls of the paraffin baths are very hot and may cause burns!

• 

Wipe the paraffin baths and the lids using a lint-free cloth moistened with solvent (xylene or paraffin 
remover).

• 

The lid can be removed for cleaning purposes.

• 

If they are very dirty, remove the paraffin filters from the paraffin baths. Clean, dry, and reinsert them.

• 

The paraffin bath seals must be replaced yearly. Contact Leica Biosystems Technical Service for the 
replacement service. 

Emptying the condensate bottle

The condensate bottle must be taken out, emptied and reinserted weekly. This should be done sooner if 
a prompt to that effect is issued by the software.

Caution 

Dispose of waste solvents with care according to local regulations and the waste management policy of 

the company or institution.
