MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION
4-21
Disc Brakes
A schedule for the periodic lubrication of brake
components should be established by the operator on the
basis of past experience and severity of operation.
Lubrication
Lubricate camshaft roller journals and anchor pins with
high temperature anti-seize grease. Lubricate manual
slack adjusters with NLGI Grade 2 lubricant and
automatic slack adjusters with slack adjuster
manufacturers recommended lubricant.
Frequency of Service
Camshaft roller journal, anchor pins and slack adjusters
should be serviced every 25,000 - 30,000 miles or every
six months. This interval is based on severity of use. For
off-highway use, service every four months.
Suggested Preventative Maintenance
Check oil level in the hubs every 1,000 miles and inspect
wheel seals for leaks.
Check brake adjustment and repack wheel bearings
every 12,000 miles.
Check brake lining wear, inspect camshaft, camshaft
spider busing and camshaft support bracket for any signs
of wear every 25,000 - 30,000 miles.
Replace wheel bearing oil (if applicable) and check air
chambers, roller shafts, anchors pins and busings 1:
Once a year. 2: At brake relining. 3: Every 100,000 miles.
