General Maintenance

Removing Faulty Packer Cylinder

To remove the faulty packer cylinder:

Carry out the preceding procedure (see

Accessing Packer Cylinders

on page 45).

Ensure the hydraulic pump is disengaged and the engine is stopped.

Ensure the truck is locked out and tagged out properly (see

Locking Out and Tagging Out the

Vehicle

on page 12)

Disconnect both hydraulic hoses from the faulty cylinder (use absorbent material to catch oil
spills).

Enter the hopper to attach and secure the cylinder to an appropriate lifting device.

Remove the piston side pin that holds the faulty cylinder to the front of the body. To do so:

6 a.

Remove all 4 bolts that are on the top of the pin (see Figure 3-35).

6 b.

Once all bolts have been removed, locate the 2 holes that are threaded.

6 c.

Install puller screws into the threaded holes.

6 d.

Tighten the screws to lift up the pin.
Tighten until the cylinder breaks loose.

Caution!

Packer cylinders must be removed with a proper lifting device. This task must be
performed by two people.
