Installation & Operation

3.1

Inspection

All Targa products are carefully inspected and tested before shipping. Inspect the
packaging for any evidence of physical damage which may have occurred in transit.
Examine the DTU, DTD, GSU all accessories and documentation. If any item is missing or
damaged, contact Targa Systems.

3.2

Mounting

The Data Transfer Unit conforms to an ARINC CDU style with four DZUS 1/4 turn
fasteners and can be mounted in any orientation.

The Data Transfer Device is keyed for proper insertion into the DTU / GSU and held
securely in place by a wedge lock mechanism when the door is closed.

The Ground Station Unit is intended for desktop use with no mounting provisions.

3.3

Connector Requirements

The Data Transfer Unit is equipped with two MIL-C-38999, Series 2, Rear mount
connector  refer to section 2.7 for details.

The Ground Station Unit is equipped with the designated associated interface connector
and a standard AC power connector (See section 2.7).

3.4

DTD Preparation

The DTD as shipped from Targa is formatted with the EXT3 file system directory as used
in our production test environment.   In most cases, the DTD will need to be “re-
formatted” to be compatible with the “end use” system’s operating system file structures.

CAUTION - Formatting a DTD will erase existing data

3.5

Handling

The DTD is installed into the DTU via a locking access door. The DTU access door
activates the DTD clamping mechanism, the DTD power control circuit and the interface
bus control circuits.
Prior to installing the DTD into either of the DTU or GSU receptacles, check that the DTD
connector is free of any foreign matter.  Failure to do this may result in damage to the
DTU or GSU internal mating connectors.
To install the DTD, open the access door and slide the cartridge into the slot until it is fully
engaged into the mating connector.  To remove the DTD, open the access door and grip
the raised edges and gently pull on the cartridge.

Note:   For installations where limited access makes it difficult to grasp the DTD, Targa

can provide a “self ejecting “ DTD as a “special” order item.  Contact Targa for
details
