The data name is adopted by pressing
ENTER
and the measurement starts. If the file name
already exists, a warning is given in which the overwriting can be confirmed (with
ENTER)
or you
can return again to the file name input by pressing the
HOME
key. Subsequently the
measurements are carried out automatically in sequence. During the overall measuring procedure,
the function key
REPORT
is shown inversely. After finishing the reporting process, a message
"Report successfully finished" appears and the function key
REPORT
is shown in a non-inverted
form again.
20.4.7
Display headend settings
Many measurement settings and parameters are predefined by the headend and cannot be
changed in the field device. This should make the operation easier and prevent unintended
disturbances of the modem operation. These settings and some information as to the headend can
be shown on the measuring instrument.
Selection by the function key
TS-INFO
of the UMS main menu. By pressing the function key
BACK
it is possible to return to the main menu. By pressing the function keys
>>>
and
<<<
it is
possible to scroll to the right and left, thus showing various settings. Details as to the settings to be
displayed can be taken from the Application-Note "AN006 - Upstream-Monitoring-System UMS" on
www.kws-electronic.de under "SUPPORT" -> "Application Notes"
20.4.8
Quick Check
This measuring mode gives a quick overview of the return channel quality. This mode is only
supported by headends with MER/BER measuring functionality.
Selection with the function key
QUICKCHECK
of the UMS main menu. All four MER/BER
measuring channels will be transmitted in sequential order and the measuring results obtained will
be shown on the display. The determination of all measurement results may take some time. The
measuring procedure can be stopped at any time by pressing the function key
BACK
.
20.4.9
Headend: Lock handheld device
Active measurements such as wobbling, MER/BER and TILT must only be performed by one field
device at a time to prevent possible reciprocal influences. This is ensured by a log-in and log-out
mechanism of the field devices in the headend. As soon as one field device is logged in, active
measurements of other field devices are not possible during this time. If a field device has not
logged out independently (e.g. battery is empty) and no timeout has been effected in the headend,
this can be done by every field device by the mode
UNLOCK HH
(if this is admitted in the head
device).
This can be initiated in the UMS main menu with the function key
UNLOCK HH
. In the main menu
the headend status changes from "LOCKED (xxxxx)" to UNLOCKED if the log-out has been
successful. Now active measurements (and/or log-in procedures) of field devices are possible
again. This function should be used carefully. In case of doubt contact the relevant service
technician/colleague who is just logged in.
