Setup
Turning the power on/off
When using batteries:
1. Slide the battery cover (11) located on the underside of the case toward the UNLOCK
position, and remove it. Insert two AA alkaline batteries (included), being sure to
observe the correct polarity. Close the cover and slide it to the LOCK position to
fasten it in place.
2. When using batteries, the power will turn on when a
mono cable is plugged into the INPUT jack (13). The
POWER LED (1) will light while the power is on.
The power will turn off when you remove the cable
from the INPUT jack.
Be sure to remove the cable from the INPUT jack when you are not using Ampworks
to preserve battery life.
If you connect a stereo cable, the power will not be turned on.
When the batteries run down, the POWER LED will blink. Replace the batteries as
soon as possible. Batteries that have become unusable should be removed from the
unit immediately. If dead batteries are left in the unit, they may leak or cause other
malfunctions. You should also remove the batteries if you will not be using Ampworks
for an extended period.
When using the AC adaptor:
1. Connect the separately sold AC adaptor to the DC 4.5V jack (12), and plug the AC
adaptor into an AC outlet. The POWER LED (1) will light, and the power will turn on.
Use only the specified external AC adaptor. (DC 4.5V
)
Be sure to disconnect the AC adaptor from the AC outlet when you are not using
Ampworks.
Connections
1. Turn off the power of the equipment you want to connect, and lower each volume control.
2. Connect your guitar to the INPUT jack (13).
3. Set the LINE/AMP select switch (14) to the appropriate position for the output destination.
If you connect the output to a mixer, recorder, or headphones, use the "LINE" setting.
If you connect the output to a guitar amp, use the "AMP" position. When AMP is
selected, the cabinet response will automatically be adjusted internally to optimize the
sound produced through a guitar amp.
4. Connect the OUTPUT jack (15) to your mixer or guitar amp.
The OUTPUT jack is stereo (TRS), so if you use a mono cable to connect it to your
guitar amp etc., only the sound of the L (left) channel will be heard.
If you are listening through headphones, connect them to this jack.
If you are running into two channels of a mixer or using two amplifiers in stereo, use a
stereo to dual mono cable.
5. If you want to use an external foot switch to change user programs, manual settings or
bypass, connect the optional Korg PS-1 or PS-100 foot switch to the FOOT SW jack
(16).
6. When you have finished making connections, turn on the power of the connected
equipment and adjust the volume.
Selecting programs (sounds)
Preset programs (11 programs)
1. Press the PRESET button (2) to light the LED.
2. Turn the AMP TYPE selector (4).
Preset programs with cabinets and effects appropriate for each amp type will be
selected.

1. Press the PROG/MANU button (3). Each time you press the button you will cycle
through the following three settings.

Bypass
When you select Bypass, you will only hear the direct (unprocessed) sound of your
guitar. When Ampworks is bypassed, the manual/program LED (PRESET or PROG/
MANU) will go dark.
•
To bypass Ampworks, hold down the PROG/MANU button (3) for about two seconds.
Press the PROG/MANU button once again to cancel bypass.
Creating your sound
To create your own sound, you can either start with an existing program and modify it, or
create a sound from scratch. If you start with an existing program, select the desired
program, and then use the control knobs (6) to adjust the amp settings, or adjust the
effect and effect depth. You can also try changing the cabinet. Alternatively if you want to
create your sound from scratch, you can use the method described below. At this time
you may wish to press the PROG/MANU button (3) to select MANUAL.
1. Use the AMP TYPE selector (4) to select one of the eleven amp types.
2. Use the CABINET selector (5) to select one of the eleven types of cabinet models.
The combination of amp type and cabinets will determine the basic tonal character of
the amp. Any cabinet model can be used with any amp model. Some recommended
combinations are in the "Effect parameter list." If you do not want to use effects, set
the EFF.DEPTH knob (8) to “0” (all the way to the left).
