Serial Ports
The information in this section explains the hardware and software used by the two serial ports on the
DIMM-PC/ETH+COM module.
Software Installation
Before using the serial ports, initialize the registers on the SMSC I/O controller on the DIMM-
PC/ETH+COM module. JUMPtec provides a utility called DIO1I111.exe to assist you.
The utility initializes the serial ports of the DIMM-PC/ETH+COM module to use I/O addresses 3E8 and
2E8, and IRQs 10 and 11 respectively.
To initialize the SMC, add the DIO1I111.exe utility to the autoexec.bat file in your system before any
program that needs to access the serial ports of the DIMM-PC/ETH+COM.
For non-DOS operating systems, the source code for DIO1I111.exe is provided in Appendix D. You can
use the code to generate a suitable configuration utility for the specific OS in use.
Serial Port Design Example
In the schematic below, Serial Port 3 (COM3) performs as an RS232 interface. Serial Port 4 (COM4)
performs as an RS484 interface.
