CONFIGURATION FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE DEMOLITION HAMMER
259
6.6.2 USE OF THE DEMOLITION HAMMER AND RULES TO BE OBSERVED
The choice of the suitable tool is a very important factor when maximum productivity is required of the demolition
hammer.
The shape and size of the tool must be defined according to the nature of the material to be broken and to the type
of work to be carried out.
The hammer is used for the demolition of floors, concrete structures, walls, small rocky surfaces, open excava-
tions, asphalt, etc.
With the application of special tools it can also be used as asphalt-cutter or compactor.
FOR A CORRECT USE OF THE HAMMER, IT IS NECES-
SARY TO:
1 - Make sure that the position of the hammer with respect to
the material to be broken is as perpendicular as possible
and that the arm thrust is sufficient, so that all the power
of the hammer can be exploited.
2 - Keep the pressure of the excavator on the hammer con-
stant as the bit penetrates the material.
Always follow the hammer while it penetrates and operate
the excavator arms in order to obtain a pressure sufficient
to keep the undercarriage raised approximately 5 cm from
the ground.
Do not raise the rear wheels more than necessary.
3 - When working on very hard materials, it is important to
avoid hitting the same point for more than 30 seconds.
Hit the same point just for a few seconds and change po-
sition very frequently, in such a way as to facilitate the
breaking of the material.
