Shaft seal options
Hygienics for food and beverage or medical applications require high level protection
class. For AKMH motors, IP69K is defined. The mechanical and electrical motor interfa-
ces are the most critical areas to fulfill the requirments.
The mechanical interface (flange and shaft) will usually be connected either to a
maschine flange or to a gearbox. Flange sealing is done with the FDA approved o-ring.
If AKMH is connected to a gearbox, then shaft sealing is not necessary.
If AKMH is connected to a maschine flange with unsealed shaft region, then select the
shaft sealing option "K" for a IP69K shaft sealing. The shaft seal is an FDA approved,
single lip, mineral filled Teflon ring. Speed limitation due to shaft sealing:

Rotor length options
Rotor length is one of the parameters which define the overall motor lengths. Rotor length
depends on the used permanent magnet size. Kollmorgen defines the rotor length with a
single number (1 to 5) from short to long. Within every rotor length several windings are
defined. Dimension drawings can be found from page 62.

Winding type options
Kollmorgen defines windings with a single character (A to Z) from low currect to high cur-
rent windings. Technical data referring to the windings can be found from page 55.
11.3.5
Cable length options
Due to protection class requirements for hygienic applications it is not possible to offer a
connector solution for AKMH motors. The motors must be ordered with fixed cables and a
defined cable length.
Connection Options K,L,T,F:
Kollmorgen offers cable length in increments of 1 m. Minimum cable length is 1 m, maxi-
mum cable length are 15 m. Coding is hexadecimal (1, 2, 3, ..., 9, A to F).
Connection Options N, M (in process):
Max cable length for connection to AKD-N is 5 m. Cable length coding is 0, the lengths
must be given in additional text information. The following increments are defined:
0.50m, 0.60m, ... , 1.00m (increments 0.1m: from 0,20m up to 1m)
1.25m, 1.50m, ... , 2.00m (increments 0.25m: from 1.25m up to 2m)
2.50m, 3.00m, ... , 5.00m (increments 0.5m: from 2.50m up to 5m)
