Line Splitter (69400)
Instruction Manual
The Klein Tools 69400 Line Splitter separates the hot from the neutral and
ground wires on a standard 120V outlet so that current measurements can be
made with a current clamp. Without the Line Splitter, the current clamp
measures the load current going in both directions, effectively cancelling the
measurement. The Line Splitter has a standard measurement section and a
ten-times multiplier section for use with less accurate or higher ranged clamp
meters. The line splitter can also be used to make voltage checks with
standard multimeter probes.
MEASURING LINE CURRENT
1. Plug the Line Splitter
into a standard 120V AC grounded receptacle.
2. Plug the load’s power cord
into the Line Splitter.
3. Place the jaws of the current clamp
around the X1 or X10 opening of the
Line Splitter. Turn on the load so it is drawing power.
4. Read the current measurement
directly if clamped around the X1
opening. Divide the reading by 10 if clamped around the X10 opening.
MEASURING LINE VOLTAGE
1. Plug the Line Splitter
into a standard 120V AC grounded receptacle.
2. Plug the load’s power cord
into the Line Splitter (Optional).
3. Insert the multimeter leads
into the Line Splitter terminals marked “VOLT
CHECK”.
4. Read the voltage measurement
on the multimeter.
