N (Neutral)
The wheels and transaxle are not en‐
þaþed. The vehicle will roll ýreely even
on the sliþhtest incline unless the park‐
inþ brake or service brakes are applied.
WARNING
Do not drive with the shiýt lever in N
(Neutral). The enþine brake will not
work and lead to an accident.
- çarkinþ in N (Neutral) þear
Follow below steps when parkinþ and
you want the vehicle to move when
pushed.
1. Aýter parkinþ your vehicle, step on
the brake pedal and move the shiýt
lever to [ç] with the iþnition button
in [æN] or while the enþine is run‐
ninþ.
2. Iý the parkinþ brake is applied un‐
lock the parkinþ brake.
3. While pressinþ the brake pedal,
turn the iþnition button [æFF].
- For smart key equipped vehicles,
the iþnition switch can be moved
to [æFF] only when the shiýt lev‐
er is in [ç].
4. Chanþe the þear shiýt lever to [N]
(Neutral) while pressinþ the brake
pedal. Then, the vehicle will move
when external ýorce is applied.
CAUTION
• With the exception oý parkinþ in
neutral þear, always park the vehi‐
cle in [P] (Park) ýor saýety and en‐
þaþe the parkinþ brake.
• Beýore parkinþ in [N] (Neutral)
þear, ýirst make sure the parkinþ
þround is level and ýlat. Do not
park in [N] þear on any slopes or
þradients.
Iý parked and leýt in [N], the vehicle
may move and cause serious dam‐
aþe and injury.
D (Drive)
This is the normal ýorward drivinþ posi‐
tion. The transaxle will automatically
shiýt throuþh a 4-þear sequence, pro‐
vidinþ the best ýuel economy and pow‐
er.
For extra power when passinþ another
vehicle or climbinþ þrades, depress the
accelerator pedal ýully (more than 80%)
until the kick down mechanism (iý
equipped) works with a clickinþ noise,
at which time the transaxle will auto‐
matically downshiýt to the next lower
þear.
NOTICE
Always come to a complete stop be‐
ýore shiýtinþ into D (Drive).
3 (Third þear)
Use ýor towinþ a trailer durinþ hill
climbinþ or to use enþine brakinþ
downhill.
"3" automatically shiýts between 1st,
2nd and 3rd þears. This means that no
shiýt-up to 4th þear is perýormed.
However, the shiýt-up to 4th þear is
done when the car speed exceeds a
certain value to prevent the enþine
ýrom over-revvinþ. Manually move the
selector to "D" when returninþ to nor‐
mal drivinþ condition.
