VII. MAINTENANCE
A. Inspecting Your Axiom Custom Seating
Regular and routine maintenance will extend the life of your seating while improving its
performance. Seating repairs and the replacement of parts should be done by a qualified
technician or an authorized Ki Mobility supplier.
1. General Inspections
a. Clean your seating at least once per month. You may need to clean your chair more
frequently if you operate it in dirty environments, such as a worksite.
b. Check your upholstery for tears or sagging.
2. Monthly Inspections
a. Fasteners:
• Loose fasteners should be retightened according to the installation instructions. All
fasteners should be tightened to any torque specifications that may be stated in the
hardware installation instructions. Contact your authorized Ki Mobility supplier
immediately to replace any broken or malfunctioning components.
b. Inspect seating for any deformities, defects, cracks or bends. These could be signs of
fatigue in the seating which could result in a failure of the seating. Discontinue use of the
seating immediately and contact your authorized Ki Mobility dealer.
c. Removable, Adjustable or Hinged Components
• Check the function of all moveable components such as swing away laterals,
abductors and head supports during each use. Ensure they adjust and lock into
position and supply the necessary support to the user.
d. Belts, Webbing, Straps and Upholstered Positioning Equipment:
• Check all components regularly and replace at the first signs of any tears, rips or
fraying. Keep foreign objects from entering the receiver parts of locking buckles and
ensure they positively latch at each use.
3. Annual Inspections
a. Have seating checked and adjusted by a qualified technician.
WARNING: Do not continue to use wheelchair and seating with broken or worn
components. Continuing use with broken or worn components could result in a fall or loss
of control and cause severe injury or death.
WARNING: After adjustments and before using this seating, ensure all fasteners are tight
and secure. Use of seating with loose hardware or components could result in damage to
the chair and/or seating system and could result in a fall or loss of control which could
cause severe injury or death.
CAUTION: Do not overtighten fasteners as this could damage the frame and/or seating
system.
