Summary of Memory Declassification Procedures
This section explains how to clear, or sanitize memory in your instrument, for all classes of memory
that are writeable during normal operation.
Before beginning clearing or sanitization, be sure to write down and save the instrument’s
user states. The procedure erases the user state information.
Read this entire document before using any sanitization procedure. Failure to do so may
necessitate returning the instrument to an Authorized Keysight Service Center for
firmware downloads and recalibration.

(User NAND Flash section B for N6700C, N6701C, N6702C and N6705C mainframe)

For more information on mainframe memory see Declassification Security Document for mainframe model.)
Description and
purpose
This is a user’s Partition of internal storage that uses a NAND flash device.
This section contains user preferences and instrument stored states
Size
56 Mbyte
Memory clearing
See Memory Sanitization
Memory
sanitization
This memory can be sanitized
This procedure clears all user instrument memory except for the instrument’s firmware, MAC
address, serial number, and calibration data, and then reboots the instrument to the new memory
state. This routine writes all zeros to memory and then performs a full chip erase as per
manufacturer’s data sheet. This procedure is not recommended for use in routine applications
because of possibility of unintended loss of user data.
For Sanitizing N6700C, N6701C, and N6702C mainframes:
From the Front Panel Menu: Select,
System > Admin >Login>(enter password)> Sanitize >
Enter
(or select), Display will show “Warning that all user data will be Sanitized and unit will be
rebooted”, Press Enter (or Select), wait 15 seconds for unit to reboot before shutting power off.
The mainframe is now Sanitized.
When using remote interface send
SYSTem:SECurity:IMMediate
Then wait 30 seconds for mainframe to reboot, after unit reboots display will show, ERR
Error 204, NVRAM checksum error, frame groupinfo,
Error 204, NVRAM checksum error, frame config.
The mainframe is now sanitized.
For Sanitizing N6705C mainframes:
From the Front Panel Menu: Select,Utilities > Administrative Tools >
Login>(enter password)
Sanitize > Enter >(Highlight Sanitize by Pressing down arrow) > Enter
The Display will say User data has been cleared, instrument will restart in 15 seconds.
After instrument restarts you will see an Error.
The minframe is now Sanitized.
From the remote interface send
SYSTem:SECurity:IMMediate
Then wait 30 seconds for mainframe to reboot, after unit reboots display will show, ERR
Error 204, NVRAM checksum error, frame groupinfo,
Error 204, NVRAM checksum error, frame config
.
The mainframe is now sanitized.
Memory removal
Use for faulty
instrument
Remove the interface PCA per the Service Guide instructions. The memory is on the mainframe
processor PCA connected to the Interface/carrier PCA located in mainframe
Memory validation
When this memory is sanitized, the instrument will load the operating system and the firmware.
The instrument can be used to determine that all user data is removed .
