Distance
When you are using the DTF (Distance to Fault) mode,
pressing
[FREQ/DIST]
brings up a submenu of setting
DTF parameters, instead of frequency range. The tester
saves the latest defined DTF parameters and recalls
them when you power on the tester next time.
Start
Sets the displayed start distance. You can pre-define the
default unit to be either meters or feet by pressing
[SYS]
> {Units}
. The minimum distance increment is 0.1 m or
0.1 foot.

Stop
Sets the displayed stop distance. Stop distance is
always greater than the start distance. The maximum
stop distance is calculated from the following equation:
(Resolution * 150 * V
t
/V
c
) / (F
2
–F
1
)
In this equation,
• Resolution means the current resolution of the trace.
Pressing
[MEAS/VIEW] > {Resolution}
enables you to
select resolution setups: 131, 261 or 521 points.
• V
t
/V
c
means the velocity factor of a cable.
• V
c
means velocity of light.
• F
2
means the stop frequency and F
1
refers to the start
frequency. The offset between F2 and F1 should
always be greater than a tenth of current resolution
(Resolution/10). For example, if the current resolution
is 521, then F
2
–F
1
should be greater than 52.1 MHz.
