Key Reference

Trace/Det

Average Number

On Off

Initiates a digital averaging routine that averages the trace points

in a number of successive sweeps resulting in trace “smoothing”.

The number of sweeps (average number) is changeable when

setting

Average (Off)

. Increasing the average number will further

smooth the trace. pressing

BW > Avg Type

to select

the type of

averaging.

Average

measures the average value of the amplitude across

each trace interval (bucket). When

Average

selected, “

Avg

” appears on the left corner.

Sample

Sample detection is used primarily to display noise or

noise-like signals. It should not be used to measure

the accurate amplitude of non noise-like signals. In

sample mode, the instantaneous signal value of the

present display point is placed in memory. When

Sample

detection is selected, “

Samp

” appears in the

upper-left corner of the display.

Normal

Selects the maximum and minimum video signal

values alternately. When selecting

Normal

detection,

“

Norm

” appears in the upper-left corner.

QuasiPeak

Quasi-peak detection displays a weighted,

sample-detected amplitude using specific, charge,

discharge, and meter time constants derived from

the legacy behaviors of analog detectors and meters.

It is used for EMI measurements to provide a specific

and consistent response to EMI-like signals.
Note that CISPR standard operation is to perform the

averaging associated with quasi peak detection on

the voltage scale. You can manually set the

Average

Type

Log-Power

Power

, but the results will no

longer be CISPR compliant.
The QuasiPeak detector is only available in

Sweep

mode. If the current sweep mode is

FFT

, once the

QuasiPeak detector is selected, the sweep mode will

be forced into

Sweep

The minimum RBW for QuasiPeak detector is 1 kHz.
