3.5 Measures for Protecting the Membrane
The following protective measures safeguard the function of the
membrane filter and maximize its service life:
• Washing out
The work step ”washing out” is to be carried out:
• After each operation,
• Between each maintenance step (disinfection, cleaning, pre-
serving, frost protection),
• Between the different cleaning steps in order to avoid interac-
tions between the cleaning agents.
• Clean
It should be cleaned if during operation
• a difference in pressure of more than 6 bar is determined
between the input and output of the membrane filter,
• the output decreases by more than 150 l/h compared with the
starting value,
• the pressure for reaching the rated output (1 600 l/h) exceeds
the starting value by more than 6 bar.
• Preserve
when not in use or during operating intervals > 60 h.
Preservation has two aims:
• to prolong the service life of the system components by
removing waste-water from the system.
• to avoid biological contamination of the system.
• Protect against frost
if there is danger of frost occurring.
3.5.1 Washing out procedure
For the washing out procedure, the membrane filters are operated
with clean water instead of raw water.
WARNING This clean water has to be free of any chlorine.
1. Fill the cleaning tank (50/5) to the upper mark with clean water;
for doing this either
• turn the valve lever V10 (50/7) to the horizontal position dur-
ing operation (open) and close again upon reaching the filling
level or
• fill the cleaning tank from an external drinking water source.
2. Press button "Stop" if the machine is in operation. Wait until but-
ton "Start" illuminates.
3. Turn the valve lever V12 (50/11) into a horizontal position (open).
4. Turn the "Program" selector switch (49/12) to "Maintenance".
5. Turn the "Maintenance function" selector switch (49/10) to
"Washing Out".
