Windlass System
The Windlass anchoring system on your Krogen 58’ is provided by Maxwell Winches
LTD and consists of one HWVC 3500 Hydraulic Vertical Drum/Double Chainwheel unit,
two foot switch located in the Bow, two remote control stations, one in the Pilothouse
and one in the Flybridge, one manually resettable Maxwell circuit protector located in the
Engine Room, Starboard side Amidships, one reversing solenoid pack under the Island
Queen berth in the Master Stateroom, one breaker/isolator panel and associated wires and
connections. The hydraulic power for the Windlass is provided by the PTO on the 20Kw
Generator. The Windlass directional control valve is located in the Bow Thruster
compartment. The electrical power for the Windlass is 24V DC.
As part of your delivery packet from Kadey-Krogen, you received an “Owners Manual,
Product Manual Code P19078” which provides excellent comprehensive and detailed
information on the operation of your Maxwell Windlass. We highly recommend you
become familiar with the organization, content, and format of that manual. This owner’s
manual will highlight some of the more important items in the Maxwell “Owner
Manual”.
Before operating the Windlass, become completely familiar with the
Important Safety
Warnings in the Maxwell Owner Manual, especially pages 4-6.
Record the model number (HWVC 3500) and unit serial number (found at the base of
the Motor/Gear Box) on page 23 of the Maxwell ‘Owners Manual’ and in Appendix G of
this Owner’s Manual, under “Equipment List, Exterior, Windlass”.
Windlass Operations
To operate the anchor Windlass, you should do the following:
1. Turn ON the 20Kw Generator.
2. Turn ON the circuit breaker on the 24V DC NAV./COM. Electronics Panel
Starboard of the steering station in the Pilothouse labeled ‘ BOW THRUSTER
WINDLASS ’.
3. An indicator light will be illuminated on both the remote control stations,
indicating the system is ready for operation.
CAUTION
Use EXTREME caution when operating the Windlass. DO NOT be distracted by
other activities. DO NOT allow children or anyone inexperienced near the
Windlass when it is in operation.
