3.7.10.2
Speed Dial “Escape” Sequences
When storing speed dial numbers the “
*
” (star) character is treated as an “escape” character. The
DTMF character that follows the “
*
” character determines its function.
Table 3-3
Escape Sequences
* 0
2 second pause
* 1
“#” (pound) character
* *
“*” (star) character
Example:
If the user programs the phone number string “1 * 0 2 3 * 1 4 5 * 6 7” into a speed dial location,
when this number is retrieved, the RTU-292C will dial as follows:
•
Dial the DTMF character 1
•
Pause for 2 seconds
•
Dial the DTMF characters 2 and 3
•
Dial the DTMF character “#” (pound)
•
Dial the DTMF characters 4 and 5
•
Dial the DTMF character “*” (star)
•
Dial the DTMF characters 6 and 7
When the RTU-292C retrieves a STAR character from speed dial, it does not dial this character,
instead, it’s a signal that the subsequent character is a special dialing command.
3.7.10.3
Using the Speed Dial Feature
Operation is the same as standard, except when queried for a phone number by the RTU-292C,
the radio enters the speed dial location instead of the telephone number. For example, to call the
number stored at speed dial location six, the user enters
* 0 6 #
(star zero six pound). All single
digit speed dial numbers must be preceded by a zero as in example provided.
3.7.10.4
Automatic Connections Using Speed Dial Location 99
The RTU-292C has the capability of automatically dialing a stored number (or leased line with
no associated number) whenever its main power is turned on. This is especially helpful if the
unit is installed in an unmanned remote location. Whenever the power is cycled, the unit waits
10 seconds (to allow other equipment enough time to stabilize after the power outage and also to
allow an operator to disable the feature if desired) and then dials the number stored in speed dial
location number 99. If the number stored is simply a single “*” (star) character, the RTU-292C
assumes that it’s connected to a leased line, and connects to its 2-wire port without dialing a
number. See Section 3.7.11 for instructions to enable and disable this feature.
