5.2 METHOD
A
It is advisable to become familiar with method A before attempting method B.
Procedures detailed in this section are skeletonized in the section on method B.
5.2.1 Startup
Procedure
1.
Open the cooling water faucet.
2.
Turn on the main power switch on the distribution board and open the
nitrogen gas source valve.
3.
Start up the microscope using the POWER switch (L2-

).
4.
Start up the computer.
5.
Start up the TEM server (

Start up the TEM Controller (

5.2.2 Shut Down Procedure
1.
Stop the electron beam generation and turn off the high voltage.
2.
Remove the specimen holder (

Sect. 5.4.3).
3.
Remove all the aperture from the beam path (or set it to bubble).
4.
Shut down the TEM Controller.
5.
Shut down the TEM Server.
6.
Shut down the computer.
7.
Shut down the microscope using the POWER switch (L2-

).
8.
Wait for 5 to 10 minutes and close the water supply and turn off the main
power switch on the distribution board.
9.
Close the nitrogen gas source valve.
5.2.3 Film
Loading
5.2.3a
Loading films into the dispensing magazine
1.
Insert an unexposed film into each cassette with the emulsion side facing up
under a safelight in a dark room.
2.
Remove the lid from the dispensing magazine and fully depress the bottom
plate until it is clamped.
3.
Place the loaded cassettes in the dispensing magazine and replace the
magazine lid. Up to 50 cassettes can be loaded in one magazine.

Do not mistake the dispensing magazine for the receiving magazine.
