Figure 5.21 Assembly of plunger washing mechanism
5.5.5 Post-replacement verification
Since the pump head is removed when the diaphragm is replaced, the plunger seal
must be checked for leaks. Refer to Sections 3.1.2 and 3.1.3 and perform the
pressure test. Examine the plunger seal for leaks (See Fig. 2.2).
An actual washing operation must be performed in order to confirm that the
diaphragm was replaced properly. If the diaphragm was not properly replaced,
washing solvent will leak into the drain port on the bottom panel. If this occurs,
disassemble the components and reassemble them carefully, taking particular care
to ensure that no parts are left uninstalled and that all parts and surfaces are facing
the correct direction.
Note: Any leakage from the plunger washing mechanism will drain through the
drain port on the bottom panel. Before operating the plunger washing
mechanism, be sure to place a tray underneath the pump in order to contain
any leaks that may develop.
5.6 Purge valve needle and purge valve packing replacement
Attach the head
mount flange
Attach the pump
head
Secure the pump
head
Attach the solvent
selection valve
Attach the purge
valve
See Fig. 5.19
Note: Remember the following during assembly:
(1) Do not strike any of the plungers when turning
the Allen wrench.
(2) Since the rim of the diaphragm will be squeezed
between the head mount flange and the spacer
②
, some resistance is to be expected when
tightening the bolts.
See Section 5.1.4 for details regarding subsequent operations.
