Step 5: Priming the Print Heads

Priming:

1. With the Print Face Cover installed, press and hold

the Prime Button for ~10 seconds (until Ink Supply

LED blinks slowly) to activate the recirculation

function. Allow the system to recirculate for at least

5 minutes before pressing the Prime Button again

to end the cycle.

2. Remove the Print Face Cover and store in a con-

venient nearby location.

3. Use a foam swab to lightly wipe the orifice plate in

a vertical downward motion.

4. Prime the print head by momen-

tarily pressing the Prime Button

to manually activate the APS

(Automatic Priming System)

Cycle. Observe the print face for

bubbles in the ink. In the case of

visible bubbles, activate the

APS cycle 2-3 more times or

until no air is observed.

5. Verify print quality by using the

Marksman Controller to print a

Test Pattern (accessed via.

“Configure” menu) while slowly

passing a sheet of paper in front

of the print face. Ensure that no

gaps are present in the print and

that it has printed the full avail-

able height (2” for 384 and 4” for

768).

6. If gaps are present in the print sample, follow the recommended procedure for Recircu-

lation as necessary until the print head passes the print quality test above.

7. With all channels firing, the print head is ready to begin printing.

Recirculation

This function circulates ink through the print head to draw air out of the system. It is very
effective in recovering print channels.

1. If not installed; reinstall the Print Face Cover. Ensure that ship cap is clean before rein-

stalling by wiping the gasket with a lint-free wipe or a foam swab.

2. Press and hold the Prime Button until the Ink Supply LED blinks slowly (~10 seconds)

to activate the recirculation function. For the first 5 seconds the print head will run

through the Manual Prime cycle, continue holding the button to activate the Recircula-

tion mode. The Ink Supply LED will blink slowly while recirculation is active. Do not

remove the Print Face Cover in this mode.

3. Allow the recirculation function to run for the desired length of time. Five minutes is the

recommended interval.

4. Press the Prime Button to end the recirculation function. If the button is not pressed,

recirculation will shut off automatically after 15 minutes.
