error message will be displayed and the 486MIS SCSI port will default to
the jumper setting. The default value is 11.
If you change the IRQ jumper(s) from the default setting of 11, you must
also enter a corresponding
/q
option for the
device=aspi2dos
line in the
config.sys
file
.
For example, if you change the jumper(s) to IRQ10, you
must add
/q10
in
config.sys
.
EXAMPLE: /q10
DOS/WINDOWS DRIVERS FORMATTING UTILITIES
DOS/WINDOWS DRIVERS includes two formatting utilities:
scsifmt
and
afdisk.
You can use
scsifmt
to low-level format SCSI fixed disks, removable fixed
disks (e.g., Bernoulli removable media) and magneto optical drives. You
can also use it to scan disk devices for surface defects to make sure the
devices are reliable before you store data on them.
You can use
afdisk
to partition SCSI disk devices and to perform high-
level formatting.
afdisk
allows you to add or delete DOS partitions or to
delete a non-DOS partition You must use this utility to partition SCSI
disks that are not mounted by the 486MIS SCSI BIOS.
These utilities and the two other utilities described in this chapter are
automatically copied to your fixed disk by the DOS/WINDOWS DRIVERS
Install
program.
Low-Level Formatting with scsifmt
When you run
scsifmt
it automatically detects and lists the disk devices
installed on your system. You then select a device from the list and
either format it or scan it for defects.
scsifmt Command Line Options
There are two
scsifmt
command line options you can use when starting
the program. The syntax of the
scsifmt
command is:
[path]scsifmt [/m or /mono] [/?]
