Setting the humidity in the crisper
There is a humidity control gauge on the crisper that can be used to control the level of humidity inside the crisper. The
single water drop indicates less humid conditions. The three water drops indicate more humid conditions. Move the slider
to change the setting.
Use the low humidity
setting for fruits or vegetables that tend to
rot
. This includes fruits and vegetables that emit an
ethylene gas, like apples, avocados, bananas (ripe), cantaloupes, figs, honeydew melons, kiwis, mangoes, papayas, pears,
and stone fruits like apricots, nectarines, peaches, and plums.
Things that
wilt
are best kept at the high-humidity setting
. This includes leafy greens, like bananas (unripe), Belgian
endive, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, herbs (cilantro, dill,
parsley, thyme), leafy greens (like kale, lettuces, spinach, Swiss chard, and watercress), okra, peas, peppers, strawberries,
summer squash, and watermelon. By closing the humidity control gauge, water vapor is maintained at a higher level in the
drawer and the moisture keeps the greens crisper and fresher longer.
Adjusting the refrigerator shelves
The shelves inside the refrigerator and freezer compartments are adjustable.
1
Open the refrigerator or freezer compartment door all the way.
2
Lift a shelf, then pull it out.
3
To replace a shelf, slide it into the compartment, then lower it into position.
