EN4201/R EchoStream™ Receiver
Installation and Operation Manual - 04056B
1 Overview
The EN4201/R receiver allows you to add one transmitter to any application. With diversity reception and
advanced signal processing, Inovonics Wireless EchoStream technology is designed to minimize dead spots in
transmission areas.

1.2 EN4201/R LEDs
Alarm LED:
Lights when the selected transmitter is sending an alarm transmission (Fig. 1A).
Tamper Fault LED:
Lights when the transmitter is sending a tamper transmission (Fig. 1B).
Low Battery Fault LED:
Lit when the selected tramsitter has a low battery (Fig. 1C).
Inactive Fault LED:
Lit when the selected transmitter is inactive (Fig. 1D).
Power LED:
Lit when receiving power (Fig. 1E).
Decode LED:
Flashes when any recognizable transmission is received. This button is only accessible when
the pry-out door on the front panel is removed (Fig. 1G).
Reset Button:
Clears the current point status and resets outputs and LEDs. Resets the supervision window
timer. This button is only accessible when the pry-out door on the front panel is removed (Fig. 1H).

2 Installation and Startup
2.1 Select the Frequency Band
EchoStream products are able to use a range of radio frequencies, and must be configured for your geographic
area. To configure the receiver:
1.
Use a small screwdriver to press the housing release tab on the top or bottom of the receiver (Fig. 2A, Fig.
3A); separate the housing.
2.
Place a selection jumper on the appropriate frequency band selection pins (Fig. 2F, Fig. 3F).
• Place the jumper on the top two pins, marked AUS, to set the frequency range to 915-928 MHz for
Australia.
• Place the jumper on the bottom two pins, marked NZ, to set the frequency range to 921-928 MHz for
New Zealand.
• Leave the jumper off the pins to set the frequency range to 902-928 MHz for North America.
Note:
North American is also selected when the jumper is only attached to one pin. This can prevent the
jumper from being lost when selecting North America.
3.
Cycle power source to reset.
2.2 Program the Receiver
The receiver can be set in program mode to change point settings. The default settings are:
2.3 Program Output
To program the transmitter output or the fault output:
1.
Use a small screwdriver to press the housing release tab on either side of the receiver (Fig. 6A, Fig. 7A);
separate the housing.
2.
Use the Advance button to select either the transmitter output or the fault output (Fig. 2).:

Select the Transmitter Output or the Fault Ouput
Note:
When programming the EN4201, the only programmable parameter for the fault output is whether the
switch is normally opened or normally closed. If F is selected, the EN4201 automatically advances to the
switch option.
3.
Press the Program button (Fig. 2K, Fig. 3K) to begin programming the point. If no transmitter has been
registered to the point, the receiver advances to the supervision window option.
Note:
If a transmitter has already been registered to the chosen point, the Delete LED lights. Press Advance
to delete the point and return to normal operation; press Program to advance to the supervision window
option.
4.
Use the Advance button to choose a supervision window of None, 2h, 4h and 96h. Press Program to
complete and advance to the output type option (Fig. 3).

5.
Use the Advance button to select the output type (Fig. 4). There are four output types:
Follower:
The output reflects the transmitter’s alarm status.
Momentary:
The output turns on for seven seconds, then turns off, regardless of the device status.
Toggle:
The output changes state each time the device sends a new activation. A minimum of five seconds
must elapse before the output can send a new activation.
Latching:
The output turns on when activated and remains on until the receiver is reset.

Press Program to complete and advance to the switch type option.
6.
Use the Advance button to choose between N/O and N/C (Fig 5). Press Program to complete..

7.
All the option LEDs will light and the point you’ve just programmed will flash. If you wish to register the
transmitter, push the Reset button on the transmitter to be registered; otherwise, press Program to return to
normal operation mode.
Note:
All LEDs will turn off when the receiver has received the transmitter’s registration message. If the
LEDs do not turn off, press Reset on the transmitter again. The registration is not complete until all LEDs turn
off, indicating the receiver has received the transmitter’s registration message.
2.4 Connect Cabling
Note:
Always test point programming before connecting cabling.
1.
Connect power cabling to the Vs (Fig. 6B, Fig. 7B) and GND (Fig. 6C, Fig. 7C) connections.
• Power source should be 11-14 VDC. Power supply must be unswitched, uninterrupted, and regulated.
2.
Connect cabling to the tamper output (Fig. 6J, Fig. 7J).
• The optional tamper output is a normally open (N/O) output that reports receiver case tamper to an
external device.
3.
Connect cabling to the jam output (Fig. 6I, Fig. 7I).
• The optional jam output is a normally closed (N/C) output that opens when noise thresholds on all
transmission channels remain above a predetermined value for more than 20 seconds.
4.
Connect cabling to the reset input (Fig. 6H, Fig. 7H).
• The optional reset input circuit permits installation of a remote momentary normally open (N/O) switch
to clear faults, unlatch outputs and reset the receiver to a normal state.
5.
Connect cabling to the output terminal (Fig. 8-11).
• The EN4201 provides one open collector circuit (Fig. 6D) and an open collector fault output (Fig. 6E);
the EN4201R provides one Form C relay alarm output (Fig. 7D) and a relay fault output (Fig. 7E).
6.
Close the receiver housing.
