(MPEG II) an d high -dens ity rec ording techn ology, DVD e nable s aesth etical ly plea sing
full-mo tion v ideo to be re corded over long pe riods of time (for in stanc e, a w hole m ovie c an
be rec orded). DVD has a structu re con sistin g of tw o 0.6 m m thi n discs which are a dhere d
to eac h othe r. Sinc e the t hinner the di sc, the highe r the d ensity at whi ch the inform ation can
be rec orded, a DVD disc has a g reate r capa city tha n a si ngle 1. 2 mm thick d isc. Si nce th e
two thi n disc s are a dhere d to ea ch oth er, the re is th e pote ntial t o achi eve do uble-s ided p lay
somet ime in the fut ure fo r even longer durat ion pla y.

tape. T his pl ayer a lso sup ports Video CDs w ith pla yback contro l (vers ion 2. 0).

the rig ht side , etc.) . With such d iscs, t he AN GLE b utton c an be used t o view the sc ene fr om
differe nt ang les.
This is the ap peara nce of the di alogue at the botto m of th e scre en wh ich are prere corde d on
some D VD d iscs.
These numb ers are recor ded on DVD discs. When a disc conta ins two or mo re mo vies, t hese
movie s are n umber ed as title 1, title 2 , etc.

This is recor ded on a Vide o CD (versio n 2.0) . The s cenes or inf ormati on to b e view ed
(or list ened t o) can be sel ected intera ctively with th e TV monito r by lo oking at the menu
shown on the TV m onitor.
These numb ers are assig ned to the tracks w hich a re re- corded on Vi deo CD s and CDs. They
enable speci fic trac ks to be loca ted qu ickly.
