When using this battery, please take particular care of the following:
Avoid any contact of the battery with damp or direct contact with water, sea water or any other liquid.
If you cannot connect the battery directly to the charger or the equipment easily, do not use force to make a connection.
If the battery is connected wrongly it will not be charged properly which can lead to a leakage of acid, overheating,
explosion or even fire due to abnormal chemical reactions.
Always take care to ensure that the contacts on the battery‘s and the charger‘s connectors are clean and corrosion
free.
Never throw the battery into a fire, never heat it up. That can cause the layer of insulation in the battery to melt, the
safety valve or the structure to be damaged, which can cause overheating, fire and/or explosion.
Avoid allowing the + and/or - pole to come into contact with wire or any metal objects (screwdrivers, paper clips, etc.)
during storage, transport and use. That will cause the battery to short circuit and an excessive amount of current to
flow, which can then cause overheating, fire or even an explosion.
Avoid knocking the battery, do not throw or drop it. Never puncture the battery (e.g. with a screwdriver, nail, etc.). Never
step on the battery. Never solder anything directly to the battery. Heat can damage the layer of insulation, the safety
valve or the safety mechanism, that can damage the protective layer, which can then cause overheating, fire or even
an explosion.
Never take the battery apart. The battery has a safety mechanism and a protective sys-tem to avoid danger. Damaging
these can cause overheating, fire or even explosion.
Always keep the battery away from sources of heat (fire, heaters, direct sunlight, cars parked in the sun). High tempe-
ratures can lead to the battery to overheating, explosion and fire.
Keep the battery out of reach of children.
Never put the battery in a microwave oven or a saucepan. Sudden heating can damage the battery‘s seal.
Never use the battery with dry batteries or other types or other makes of battery or with ones of a different capacitie,
as it may overcharge during charging or deep discharge during discharging, which can lead to abnormal chemical
reactions, leading to overheating, fire or explosion.
Stop charging after the full charge time, even if the charger has not switched off the charging process.
Do not use the battery near static electricity (except where allowed by the manufacturer).
If you should notice an unpleasant smell, overheating, deformation, corrosion, oxidation or any other change to the
battery at any time, remove it from the model immediately, disconnect it immediately from the charger/discharger and
do not use the battery again at all.
Should electrolyte escape from the battery or cause an unpleasant smell, remove the battery immediately from any
source of heat or naked flame (e.g. burning cigarette).
Never let escaped electrolyte come into contact with the eyes or mucous membranes. Should this still happen, wash
the area immediately with a lot of clear water and then contact a doctor straight away.
Even contact with normal skin can lead to irritation and inflammation. Wash off the skin and affected clothing immedi-
ately.
Continued contact with the electrolyte can cause serious injury.
When charging and discharging it is necessary to pay attention to the following:
The battery to be charged or discharged must lie on an inflammable, heat-resistant and non-conductive base during
the process.
Avoid proximity with inflammable and gaseous liquids. Never leave the battery unattended during charging and dischar-
ging.
Never charge or discharge the battery without using the approved safety switch. Unexpected problems during charging/
discharging can lead to overheating and an accident. Always use a safety switch made by Kokam (or a better one).
Never use chargers which are unsuitable or are not recommended by Kokam, and always follow Kokam‘s charging/
discharging instructions strictly. Charging/discharging the battery under conditions other than those recommended by
Kokam (high temperature, high voltage or amperage, or using an adapted or unsuitable charger) can lead to over-
heating, fire or explosion with abnormal chemical reactions.
Never connect the battery directly to an electric socket or to a car cigarette lighter socket. High voltage can cause an
excessive flow of current and electric shock. Electrolyte can flow out of the battery, or it can overheat, explode or catch
fire.
Do not charge/discharge the battery close to a source of heat or in a car in direct sunlight. This can damage the safety
circuitry.
Charge the battery to the level set by the manufacturer every 6 months, even if the battery has not been used. The
battery loses charge during storage. Too much charge can lead to abnormal chemical reactions, which can cause acid
leak or the battery catching fire.
