10.5 Detection of spray/fog/dust
"Spray/fog/dust detection" can mark recognised pixels as spray/fog/dust
(→ „10.1.1 Pixel properties“).
Spray may distort the measurement results . Spray is:
●
dust
●
humidity / fog
●
particle clouds
The distortion of measurement results caused by spray can be reduced by increasing the lateral distance
between the device and the illumination unit .
Test the ideal filter setting under difficult conditions:
●
strong sunlight
●
wet surfaces
When detecting reflectors, the distance between the device and the illumination must be as short
as possible . Otherwise, the reflectors will not be properly recognised .
In narrow and closed locations, spray/fog/dust can only be recognised with restrictions .
The pixels recognised as spray, fog or dust are invalid (pixel properties set to 0) and cannot be
used for applications .
If more than 30% of the pixels are recognised as spray, fog or dust, the "availability" bit is set to
0 (not available) . The status of the bit can be retrieved via the CAN and Ethernet interface . In the
interface descriptions, the CAN and Ethernet interfaces are described in detail .
