3592 tape drives
The TS4500 tape library supports the TS1140, TS1150, and TS1155 tape drives.
The TS1140, TS1150, and TS1155 tape drives offer a dual-port Fibre Channel host
attachment interface. This feature provides flexibility in Open Systems
environments because the drives can directly attach to Open Systems servers with
Fibre Channel attachments. All TS1140, TS1150, and TS1155 tape drives are
encryption capable. For more information about encryption, see “Tape encryption
overview” on page 110.
The HD2 frames of the TS4500 tape library support the 3592 IBM TS1140 Tape
Drive (Model 3592 EH7), IBM TS1150 Tape Drive (Model 3592 EH8), IBM TS1155
Tape Drive (Model 3592 55E, and Model 3592 55F).
Note: Drive model 3592 E07 and E08 are not supported by the HD2 frames of the
TS4500 tape library.
The IBM TS1155 Tape Drive Model 3592 55E supports a 10Gb Ethernet host
attachment interface over optical fiber, which is optimized for cloud-based and
hyper-scale environments.
The 3592 tape drive communicates with the TS4500 tape library through an
internal Ethernet interface and uses the Statistical Analysis and Reporting System
to isolate failures between media and hardware.
The basic features of the TS1140, TS1150, and TS1155 tape drives are shown in
Table 9. Refer to “Drive performance” on page 65 for more 3592 tape drive
performance specifications.
