Procedure
1. Ensure that you have the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap on and that the ESD clip is plugged
into a ground jack or connected to an unpainted metal surface. If not, do so now.
2. Determine where the PCIe adapter was plugged.
• If the PCIe adapter was plugged into the system backplane, continue with step “3” on page 45.
• If the PCIe adapter was plugged into a PCIe riser, continue with step “4” on page 45.
3. Insert the replacement PCIe adapter into the system backplane by completing the following
procedure.
a) Using your labels, insert the cables into the PCIe adapter.
Push the connector in until the latch clicks.
b) Align the adapter properly and insert it fully into the slot as shown in the following figure.
c) Replace the tailstock screw to secure the PCIe adapter to the system.
d) Using your labels, replace any plugs or cables that extend out from the rear of the PCIe adapter.

Continue with step “5” on page 47.
4. To replace a PCIe adapter in a PCIe riser, complete the following steps:
a) Using your labels, ensure that you are working with the correct PCIe riser.
b) Using your labels, insert the cables into the PCIe adapter.
Push the connector in until the latch clicks.
