TS3400 Tape Library Maintenance Information
Diagnostics You need to run library
diagnostic tests… Run the Library Verify and Drive diagnostic tests to identify the
problem. See “Running Library Verify Diagnostics” on page 7-5
and “Running Drive Diagnostics” on page 7-6.
For other diagnostic tests, see “Service Mode Menu” on page 7-3.
Power If the power supply switch
is ON and the power
indicator is OFF… 1. Verify that the power switch is ON.
2. Verify that the power cable is properly seated on the power
supply unit and at the customer power source.
3. If necessary, replace the failing power supply unit. See
“Replacing a Power Supply Unit” on page 9-7.
Accessor The Accessor is stuck in one
position and is making a
clicking sound… 1. Verify that the shipping pin has been removed.
2. Run the Library Verify diagnostic test to identify the problem.
See “Running Library Verify Diagnostics” on page 7-5.
3. If necessary, replace the Accessor assembly. See “Replacing
the Accessor Assembly” on page 9-23
The Accessor Assembly
does not move within five
minutes after Power ON… 1. Run the Library Verify diagnostic test to identify the problem.

2. Suspect the Library Control Blade. See “Replacing the
Library Control Blade (LCB)” on page 9-8.
Library Not Booting There is a blank operator
panel/display…
Accessor doesn’t move…
Display is stuck on
initialization for extended
period of time…
Lights are not correct on
back of library… 1. Run the Library Verify diagnostic test to identify the problem.
See “Running Library Verify Diagnostics” on page 7-5.
2. Suspect the Library Control Blade or the Power Supply. See
“Replacing the Library Control Blade (LCB)” on page 9-8 and
“Replacing a Power Supply Unit” on page 9-7.
Encryption An error is displayed when
the drive detects an error
associated with an
encryption operation (while
the tape drive was writing
data to, or reading data
from, tape)… 1. Check the host application to ensure the host application is
providing the correct encryption key.
• See “Sense Data” on page 1-25 for the Sense Data returned
for an encryption operation.
• Retry the encryption operation after the host application
problems have been resolved.
2. Check the operation of the tape drive by resetting the drive
and running POST.
• Refer to the error code displayed if the drive resets and
POST fails.
• Retry the encryption operation if the drive reset and POST
complete without errors.
3. Check the media.
• Ensure the correct media is being used.
• Retry the encryption operation with the tape cartridge in
another encryption enabled drive. Replace the media if the
problem repeats with the same tape cartridge in multiple
drives. If the problem occurred while the tape drive was
running POST or diagnostics, replace the drive. The error
code clears with the first attempted write/read after the
encryption key is changed, or when the drive is placed in
maintenance mode.
