ISDN PC Card – 13 Using NDIS
191
Remedy:
Because the incoming calls for the CAPI appli-
cations and the RAS both have the same service indica-
tor, they can only be distinguished by assigning them
different Multiple Subscriber Numbers (MSNs, on DSS1
lines). To assign an MSN, proceed as follows:
Configure an MSN (on a DSS1 line) for the NDIS WAN CA-
PI Driver for Windows NT. To do this, open the Network
Settings (Start / Settings / Control Panel / Network) and
click the “Network Adapter” tab. Select the NDIS WAN
CAPI Driver in the list and click “Properties” The “NDIS
WAN CAPI Driver for Windows NT” properties dialog ap-
pears, and you can enter one of your ISDN line's MSNs.
•
Symptom:
PPP connections fail.
Cause:
The Windows NT RAS Service uses PPP over IS-
DN in accordance with RFC 1618. This protocol is also re-
ferred to as “synchronous PPP”, and is a widely-used
standard for network connections over ISDN.
Remedy:
The remote computer or Internet provider
must also support this standard. You will find further in-
formation in the Word document STRUCTUR.DOC, which
contains the specifications for the NDIS WAN CAPI Driv-
er for Windows NT.
•
Symptom:
A connection to CompuServe fails.
Cause:
CompuServe does not use the standard PPP
over ISDN (RFC 1618).
Remedy:
Use a fossil driver (such as cFos/NT) that pro-
vides a suitable modem emulation.
