Powering the System On and Off

The system can be powered on after the required cables are installed and the power
cables are connected.

To initialize the system, the power button located on the operator panel can be pushed.

4 Operator Panel Display

Prior to pushing the power button on your operator panel, observe the following:

The power led is slowly blinking.

prompt is visible in the operator panel display.

After pushing the power button located on the operator panel, observe the following:

1. The power led begins to blink visibly faster.

2. The system cooling fans are activated and can be heard revving up to operating

speed..

3. The power led stays on solid and progress indicators, also referred to as

checkpoints, are visible on the operator panel display.

If the system is operating under AIX, type the

shutdown

command to power off the

system. If you cannot use this method, you can power off the system by pressing the
operator-panel power button.

Attention:

Using the operator-panel power button to power off the system can cause

unpredictable results in the data files, and the next IPL will take longer to complete.
