IBM
TotalStorage
DR550
SAN
Fibre
Channel
switch
This
section
provides
information
about
the
DR550
Storage
Area
Network
switch,
such
as
explanations
of
controls
and
indicator
lights.
Note:
The
DR550
SAN
Fibre
Channel
Switch
is
not
supported
with
model
DR1.
Two
IBM
System
Storage
SAN
Fibre
Channel
Switches
are
used
to
interconnect
both
DR550
SSAM
Server
servers
with
the
DR550
Storage
Controllers
to
create
a
SAN
(dual
node
configurations).
Tape
attachment
can
be
done
using
the
additional
ports
on
the
switches.
The
DR550
SAN
Switches
build
two
independent
SANs,
which
are
designed
to
be
fully
redundant
for
high
availability.
For
the
single
node
configurations,
only
one
DR550
SAN
Switch
is
included.
This
creates
a
single
independent
SAN
and
can
be
used
for
both
disk
and
tape
access.
The
DR550
SAN
Switch
is
a
16-port,
dual
speed,
auto-sensing
Fibre
channel
switch.
Eight
ports
are
populated
with
4
gigabit
shortwave
transceivers
when
the
DR550
is
configured
in
an
non
Enhanced
Remote
Mirror
(ERM)
configuration.
Twelve
ports
are
populated
with
4
gigabit
short
wave
transceivers
when
the
DR550
is
configured
for
enhanced
remote
mirror
when
the
distance
between
the
SAN
switch
and
the
first
component
in
the
network
is
less
than
300
meter.
Twelve
ports
are
populated
with
4
gigabit
shortwave
transceivers
and
four
ports
are
populated
with
4
gigabit
long
wave
transceivers
when
the
distance
between
the
SAN
switch
and
the
first
component
in
the
network
is
greater
than
300
meters.
This
dual
implementation
is
designed
to
provide
a
fault
tolerant
fabric
topology,
to
help
avoid
single
points
of
failure.
Each
switch
in
the
DR550
comes
pre-zoned
by
ports.
Both
switches
are
configured
with
distinct
zones
as
illustrated
in
the
cabling
diagrams.
Switch
characteristics
The
following
sections
describe
the
physical
characteristics
of
the
switch.
Port
side
of
the
DR550
SAN
switch
shows
the
port
side
of
the
switch.
The
serial
port,
Ethernet
port,
and
the
Fibre
Channel
ports
are
all
located
on
this
side
of
the
switch.
All
LEDs
are
also
located
on
the
port
side
of
the
switch.
These
LEDs
display
the
system
status,
power
status,
port
status,
and
port
speed.
See
for
a
complete
description
of
the
locations
and
interpretations
of
these
LEDs.
The
switch
enclosure
has
forced-air
cooling,
with
the
fans
pushing
the
air
from
the
non-port
side
of
the
chassis
through
the
enclosure,
and
exhausting
through
the
holes
on
the
port
side.
Three
dual
speed
fans
provide
the
cooling
for
the
switch.
