Installing a power supply
1. Look at the back of the power supply, the connector is installed with the
connector facing down.
2. Pull out the handle and lift it up.
3. Slide the new power supply unit into its slot until the unit connects to the back
panel.
4. Push down the handle and slide it back into place.
5. Reattach the power cord to the power supply.
6. Go to “Verifying switch repair” on page 51.
Replacing a GBIC module
GBIC modules are installed and removed by sliding them in and out of the system
board from the front of the unit. Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
traps are generated during GBIC insertion and removal. You do not need to turn off
the switch to replace GBICs.

Removing a GBIC module
Figure 19 shows an IBM GBIC. Pull down the swing handle on the front of the
GBIC and pull it out. Carefully move the GBIC from side to side to unseat it.
Installing a GBIC module
Note: The GBIC module is keyed so it can be inserted only one way. If the module
does not slide in easily, do not force the insertion.
