Using the OSCAR Interface
This section describes how to use the OSCAR interface for configuring the rack console switch and
accessing attached servers.
Accessing the OSCAR Interface
Using a locally-connected keyboard, monitor, and mouse, by default anyone can configure the rack
console switch and access attached servers through the OSCAR interface.
Restricted access may be configured as described in Chapter 4. If an administrator account is
enabled, the following access restrictions are in effect:
• All types of users need to log in before accessing the OSCAR interface.
• A regular user can view and access an attached server through the OSCAR interface only if the
administrator has authorized that user to access that particular server.
• A regular user’s access to the OSCAR interface is restricted, and a password may be required.
• If no password is assigned to a regular user account, the user can log in by entering a username
and leaving the password field blank. If a password is assigned, the regular user enters both the
username and password.
• The administrator always needs to enter the Admin username and a password
Both the Admin user and regular users can change their own passwords. The Admin user can
change the password of any other user.
Hot keys
A configurable hot key (or hot key sequence) is used for accessing the OSCAR interface.
Print Screen or Ctrl+Ctrl work by default. If logging in is required, pressing the hot key brings up
a login window. If logging in is not required, pressing the hot key brings up the Main window of
the OSCAR interface.
Alternative key sequences may be configured as described in “Configuring the hot key sequence
for launching the OSCAR interface or the login window” on page 34.
Accessing the rack console switch
1. Press the Print Screen key on the keyboard of a local user station attached to the rack console
switch. If logging in is not required, the Main window opens.
