Chapter 5 Diagnostics
This chapter provides a set of basic system diagnostics to determine if the system is operating within established
parameters or whether the system requires maintenance. The basic system check includes ICMP Ping, Link OAM, ICMPv6, and
VeriPHY Cable Diagnostics.
Ping
This section describes how to issue ICMP Ping packets to troubleshoot connectivity issues.
To configure an ICMP Ping in the web interface:
Click Diagnostics/ Ping
Specify ICMP Ping IP Address of the target device.
Specify the Ping Length, Ping Count, and Ping Interval.
Click Start to initiate the Ping.
ICMP Ping Parameters:
Items
Description
IP Address
Enter the IP Address of the device to be sent a Ping.
Ping Length
The payload size of the ICMP packet. Values range from 2 bytes to 1452 bytes.
Ping Count
The count of the ICMP packet. Values range from 1 time to 60 times.
Ping Interval
The interval of the ICMP packet. Values range from 0 seconds to 30 seconds.
Start
Click the Start button then the switch will begin to ping the device using ICMP packet size as
set above. The switch will transmit the number of packets as set above in the Ping Count field,
and the sequence number and roundtrip times are displayed upon reception of a replay from the
target device. The page refreshes automatically until responses to all transmitted packets are
received or until a timeout occurs.
Ping6
This section describes how to issue an ICMPv6 Ping to troubleshoot IPv6 connectivity issues.
To configure an ICMPv6 Ping in the web interface:
Click Diagnostics / Ping6
Specify ICMPv6 Ping IP Address of the target device.
Specify the Ping Length, Ping Count, and Ping Interval.
Click Start to initiate the Ping.
