Additional seats
The seats of a vehicle are the most important elements for the comfort of the driver
and occupants. A seat must be anatomically designed and be in the proper position
in order to ensure a good visibility and physiologically correct posture, especially for
the driver.
A good seat prevents the submarine effect from occurring during sudden deceler
-
ation (the occupant's body passes under the safety belt and slips forward). It pro
-
tects the abdomen against a side impact and properly supports the head in a
collision from behind, so preventing cervical lesions.
The seats supplied by HMC comply with current regulations and have the most ad
-
vanced standards of comfort and ergonomics.
The standards for seat belts and vehicle seats must be met. The Body Builder is not
allowed to install seats that are not supplied or explicitly authorised by HMC. Oth
-
erwise, the responsibility for homologation of the vehicle will be the responsibility
of the Body Builder.
European legislation, Directive 74/408/EEC and Directive 2005/39/EC and the re
-
spective laws of each country. must be respected. Seats must not be installed in the
vehicle without safety belts. The standards for safety belts must be considered.
See chapter 4.5.3 "Safety systems".
The displacement of the seats fitted as standard or the assembly of additional seats
is only allowed if seats, anchoring systems, safety belts etc. supplied or approved
by HMC are used. New seats cannot be installed in vehicles which are supplied from
the factory without any seat attachment anchor points. All work performed on the
vehicle seats without considering the above points will be the sole responsibility of
the Body Builder, both relative to the performance and documentations or to testing
for the homologation of the vehicle.
The H point must be maintained at all times in the newly installed seats or those that
have been recalled because of the modofication on the vehicle. For more informa
-
tion about the position of point H depending on the vehicle model and the type of
seat, contact the relevant department.
See General Book, chapter 2.4 “Contact possibilities”.
Both seats and safety belts that have been disassembled during modification work
must be mounted using the same type of bolts with identical quality and torque. The
same process is to be followed for newly installed seats.
WARNING
- The anchoring system of the seats must not be manipulated or modified, since,
in the event of an accident, this could cause the seats to break loose from
their housings.
- Easy and convenient access to the seats must be ensured. Sharp parts must be
avoided in the vicinity of the seats, as these can injure the occupants.
