5 – Preventive maintenance

Preventive maintenance

Every 40 hours

Measure the hydraulic fluid temperature

Keep the hydraulic fluid temperature in the hydraulic fluid tank between 37.8°C (100°F) and 51.7°C (125°F). Hydraulic
fluid that is too hot can deteriorate and cause the pump to fail. Hydraulic fluid that is too cool causes the pump to operate
sluggishly.

Required tools, materials, and parts

Infrared thermometer

Do this task when the pump is running.

Point an infrared thermometer at the middle of the hydraulic fluid tank.

The optimal operating temperature is 40.6°C (105°F) to 46.1°C (115°F). If the temperature is outside of this range, adjust
the hydraulic fluid temperature. Refer to page 77 for instructions.
