3.4. Work area
The operator must remove from the machine and its surroundings all loose objects which are
not an integral part of it (for example tools left after maintenance work, ropes used for moving
parts, personal property, and so on).
If you will be working in the presence of flammable gases (in any case not in a tunnel) you will
need to comply with current standards and requirements for the specific type of atmosphere.
When working at the foot of steep or sheer rock faces, install suitable nets to prevent debris
from detaching and falling from the rock face.
Illumination
The additional spotlights must be powered by an source external of the machine.
Spotlights that illuminate the working area must be arranged and regulated so that they do not
blind the staff in the worksite.
Hazard area
When the machine is in operation, it is not safe for persons to pass by it or stay near it. The
hazardous area of the machine includes the following:

footprint of the machine

area around the machine where individuals may be reached by moving parts of the
machine
-
area around the machine where individuals may be reached by materials which fall from
or are thrown by the machine
The layout of the hazardous areas depends on the setup of the machine and also the position
of the work tools. The following images show the hazardous areas of the machine in its main
setups and positions of work tools.
