Items in the figure are described as follows:

l

Remote modem
The remote modem is connected to the serial port of the controller. It serves as the answer
end.

l

Local modem
The local modem is connected to the serial port of the maintenance terminal. It serves as
the call end.

Therefore, through the serial port of the maintenance terminal, the local modem, the PSTN, the
remote modem, and serial port of the controller, the storage device can be maintained remotely.

Procedure

Step 1

Configure the remote modem.

To set the remote modem to the answer end, do as follows.

1.

Connect the remote modem to the power supply, and use a serial cable to connect the serial
port of the remote modem to the serial port of the maintenance terminal. Use a telephone
line to connect the LINE interface of the modem to the PSTN.

2.

Start the Windows HyperTerminal. The system displays the
