2 Analy zing and Rectify ing Faults

The function of checking V21 signal that the calling party receives is enabled.

Solution

1.

Ensure that the configuration of the softswitch of the user is correct. For example, for
Huawei softswitch SoftX3000, deselect the no fax / no modem option in the gateway
property.

2.

You  can  shorten  the  duration  of  the  V21  timer  (scope:  0s  to  30s)  based  on  the  site
requirements.  For  example,  to set  the  duration  of  the  V21  timer  of  port  0  to  10s,  run  the
following command:

TERMINAL(advanced-config)#

t38 v21TimerLen 10

TERMINAL(advanced-config)#

pstnport attribute set 0 v21TimerLen 10

If the Internet access speed rate through modem is low, you can also use this method.

3.

You  can  shorten  the  duration  of  the  V21  timer  (scope:  0  ms  to  30000  ms)  based  on  the
site  requirements.  For  example,  to  set  the  duration  of  the  V21  timer  to  500  ms, run  the
following command:

TERMINAL(advanced-config)#

dsp fax-tone set v21Timer 500

If the Internet access speed rate through modem is low, you can also use this method.

4.

You can run the following command to check whether you have enabled the function of
checking V21 signal that the calling party receives.

TERMINAL(config)#display system soft-parameter

        system soft-parameter

If

Caller Detect V21

, run the following command to disable the function:

TERMINAL(advanced-config)#system soft-parameter caller-detect-v21 off

If the function is enabled, the IAD will stop the modem service and start the fax service when the calling
party receives the V21 signal sent by the called party.
