Switching Router Service Boards
Overview
The Quidway® NetEngine 40 universal switching router (USR) series (abbreviated as NE40)
provides several dedicated service boards to process some specific services and applications
independently, satisfying dedicated service requirements. In view of different implementation
methods, the NE40 currently provides two types of service boards: flexible plug-in service board
and fixed service board.
The flexible plug-in service board consists of the Service Processing Unit (SPU) and service
sub-cards that work together to provide related services. Currently, the NE40 supports three types
of SPUs (SPUA, SPUB and SPUC) and five types of service sub-cards (Network Address
Translator (NAT), Network Address Translator-Protocol Translator (NAT-PT), NetStream, Layer 2
Tunnel Protocol (L2TP), and Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE)). The fixed service board
provides only two types of services: NAT and Netstream.
