Site Type Description

The configuration principles for a dual-band GSM base station are similar. For example, the
configuration principles for a dual-band base station (900 MHz and 1800 MHz) are similar to
the principles for a dual-band (850 MHz and 1800 MHz) base station. The following description
is based on a dual-band base station (900 MHz and 1800 MHz).

band from 1800 MHz band in a dual-band base station. The GSM S4/4/4 & S4/4/4+UMTS
S1/1/1 configuration indicates that a dual-mode base station works in dual-band mode on the
GSM side. S2/2/2 (1G+1G+1G) indicates that a base station in S2/2/2 configuration is configured
with one GRFU in each sector. GRFU is represented by G, DRFU is represented by D, WRFU
is represented by W, and MRFU is represented by M.

Numbering Scheme

The sectors in a base station working in GSM only mode are numbered from G1 in a
numerical order, for example G1 and G2. Low-frequency sectors are numbered from G1
to G6, and high-frequency sectors are numbered from G7 to G12.

The sectors in a base station working in UMTS only mode are numbered from U1 in a
numerical order, for example U1 and U2.

l

The sectors in a multi-mode base station are numbered from M1 in a numerical order, for
example M1 and M2. Low-frequency sectors are numbered from M1 to M6, and high-
frequency sectors are numbered from M7 to M12.

The slots are numbered from 0 in a numerical order, for example slot 0, slot 1, and slot 2.
A slot can be identified through cabinet slot number, for example, slot 1 in cabinet
1 (primary RFC).

Principles for RFU Slot Assignment

Scenario 1: A dual-mode base station working in single-band mode on the GSM side and
supporting not more than three sectors for the band, with the configuration of GRFUs (or
DRFUs) and WRFUs

If not more than three GSM sectors are configured , GRFUs or DRFUs are preferentially
positioned in slots 0, 2, and 4 in cabinet 1. By default, WRFUs are positioned in slots 1, 3, and
5 in cabinet 1.
