Logical Structure of an AAU
An AAU performs the following functions:
l
Receives downlink baseband data from the BBU and sends uplink baseband data to the
BBU.
l
On the RX channel, it receives RF signals through feeders, down-converts the RF signals
into IF signals, amplifies them, and performs analog to digital conversion (ADC). On the
TX channel, it filters signals, performs digital to analog conversion (DAC), and up-converts
the RF signals to the TX band.
l
Multiplexes RX signals and TX signals to enable these signals to share the same antenna
path, and filters RX and TX signals.
l
Transmits or receives radio waves and forms beams.
